[2012] My Bloody Valentine -EP's 1988-1991

Those wishing to investigate the influential band’s material really should check this out. It contains some really ground-breaking tracks like the thrilling twin adrenalin rushes of You Made Me Realise and Soon. Both tracks see the band perfecting their trademark woozy sound. The former contains the infamous midsection, legendarily extended to an ear-splitting 20 minutes in concert. The latter is a perfect marriage of hard-edged guitars, dance beats and Bilinda Butcher’s famously vague vocals (as described by Brian Eno) and is one of THE classic 90s indie-anthems. The collection also features Feed Me With Your Kiss and To Here Knows When, both of which feature on the band’s other albums.

[2012] Can - The Lost Tapes

Spoon Records and Mute are delighted to announce the release of Can – The Lost Tapes, the long awaited box set of unreleased studio, soundtrack and live material.
The Lost Tapes, out on 18 June 2012, was curated by Irmin Schmidt and Daniel Miller, compiled by Irmin Schmidt and Jono Podmore, and edited by Jono Podmore.
When the legendary Can studio in Weilerswist was sold to the German Rock N Pop Museum, they bought everything, including the army mattresses that covered the walls for sound protection, and relocated it to Gronau.
Whilst dismantling the studio, master tapes were found and stored in the Spoon archive. With barely legible labeling, no one was sure what was on these until Irmin Schmidt and long time collaborator Jono Podmore started to go through over 30 hours of music.
What they found was years of archived material, not outtakes, but rather tracks which had been shelved for a variety of reasons – soundtracks to films that were never released and tracks that didn’t make it onto the final versions of albums due to space.

[2012] Chromatics - Kill For Love

It's been five years since Chromatics released Night Drive on label Italians Do It Better. Five long years in the wait and finally it is released on June 5th 2012.
Italians Do It Better / Jun 2012
Producer and co-founder of label , Johnny Jewel has stated in an interview: 'I originally thought Kill for Love was going to be out in 2010; there was a version of it done, but it was laughable, embarrassing. I'm really glad I pulled it. Overall, though, I made almost 10 different versions of the album with different mixes, masters, and speeds of the songs. The album was mastered maybe six times total, and then I did a greatest hits of the masters, the edits, and the tempos for what I thought would be the most effective arc. But everyone thought we were insane.' (Source:Pitchfork)

[2012] Symmetry - Themes For An Imaginary Film

Symmetry, the latest project from Johnny Jewel (along with Nat Walker) released by Italians Do It Better. Themes for an Imaginary Film, the group's deeply ambitious debut album, is a different beast altogether: "cinematic" may not be as accurate as "novelistic" in describing a record as sprawling, mysterious and immersive as this one. While kickstarted in part by Jewel's involvement in the Drive soundtrack (as he recently told Pitchfork, he began writing music for the film before the producers eventually went with the more experienced Cliff Martinez), Themes doesn't feel like the score for something so much as the thing in and of itself—a work of intricate storytelling and thematic sophistication.

[2012] Matthew Dear - Her Fantasy [12'']

It's no coincidence that "Her Fantasy"—the celebratory lead single from Matthew Dear's Beams, the followup to 2010's Black City—is the album's opening track: If Beams is the sound of Matthew Dear waking up after the long, dark night of Black City, then "Her Fantasy" is the sun's first rays, peaking over the horizon.
