[NEWS] Vatican Shadow Tour & Exclusive Track

Dominick Fernow’s militant techno project, Vatican Shadow has just confirmed new dates for the project’s first European tour (see flier above). Fernow combines hypnotic, machine like rhythms with lush, seductive and sinister melodies reminiscent of Aphex Twin and Mezzanine-era Massive Attack, set to the apocalyptic headline-esque titles and artwork dealing with fear, anxiety and current events.

As previously confirmed, Vatican Shadow will perform at the legendary Berghain club in Berlin, Germany as part of the Downwards Nacht, alongside Surgeon, Regis and Cut Hands. Further appearances include the highly anticipated and heavily curated Blackest Ever Black night at London’s Corsica Studio with a host of acts from the label’s roster, including Black Rain, Russell Haswell, and Source Direct, and Unsound Festival in Poland.

Two new dates have been announced in Helsinki, Finland with Tim Hecker and a performance at Nico Vascellari’s Codalunga in Vittorio Veneto, Italy. Further details will be added on the additional dates mentioned as they become “declassified”.

[NEWS] Andy Stott - Numb

Here’s the first track to be unveiled from probably our most anticipated record left to be released in 2012, Andy Stott’s forthcoming Luxury Problems, out next month on Modern Love. The record has been described as falling “somewhere between Theo Parrish and Sade, but more fucked,” and gorgeous/ghostly album-opener “Numb” hints at a devastatingly beautiful (and relatively accessible) evolution of the imposing, future-primitive grind of his incredible Passed Me By / We Stay Together EPs from last year, thanks in part to the haunting vocals from Stott’s childhood piano teacher Alison Skidmore.

[NEWS] Planningtorock "Patriarchy Over and Out"

On August 1, Planningtorock's Janine Rostron plays the Southbank Centre in London as part of Antony's Meltdown Festival. The line-up represents Anthony's "Future Feminism" approach, in which he and the group of New York City artists with whom he associates himself "reject patriarchy in its myriad virulent and apocalyptic manifestations, [advocating] for a fundamental shift towards feminism in all our systems and structures of governance." Rostron's new single, "Patriarchy Over and Out", is the epitome of the beat to which Antony marches. And what a beat: the first single to be released on Rostron's DFA imprint, Human Level, initially sticks so tightly to the grid that it's as if someone sent an electronic charge up a pristine chickenwire fence, crackling, hissing and buzzing in threatening fashion. It's militantly precise, and Rostron's masculine, operatic demands are cold and mantra-like: "I don't want to wait/ Patriarchal life, you're out of date/ Patriarchal life, get out of the way." Three-quarters of the way through the song, the grid melts away to a rueful glow, and Rostron's vocals become more emotional, more human and imploring. It's as if the song strips away a common perception of feminism-- exacting and militant-- to show the basic human cry for equality beneath. A deeply persuasive, beautiful single.

[NEWS] Inga Copeland – “B.M.W.”

Inga Copeland returns with a new solo track, apparently taken from a forthcoming 12″: “B.M.W.” is a cleaner, more accessible (relatively speaking) pop jam than we’re used to from the confounding Hype Williams crew, although shades of Black Is Beautiful’s haunting and hypnotic mutant bass/dub/reggae/soul still lurk in the shadows. Look for Copeland’s Faith 12″, “out soon.”
